gas turbine :

Gas turbine equipment operates under high mechanical loads and high temperatures, and must withstand hot gas corrosion and erosion caused by pollutants such as fuel and contaminated air. To protect against these harsh environments, special Claddings have been developed using Laser Cladding technology. These Cladding increase the operational life of the equipment and allow for an increase in the turbine entry temperature (TET), leading to improved thermal efficiency.

The Cladding used on blades and vanes are typically made from nickel-based superalloys (which are resistant to high temperatures) or cobalt-based superalloys. Nickel-based superalloys, such as IN738, have excellent oxidation resistance but are not capable of withstanding corrosion and erosion at high temperatures. Cobalt-based superalloys perform very well against corrosion but have limited oxidation resistance. Today, Laser Cladding technology is recognized globally as a new method for repairing various turbine blades and is considered one of the best methods for major turbine repairs.

Laser Cladding technology offers significant advantages for the gas turbine industry, including:

  • Increased resistance to oxidation and corrosion
  • Three-dimensional component manufacturing (AM)
  • Enhanced erosion resistance
  • Extended operational life and rejuvenation of components and equipment
