**Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)** refers to a collection of methods used to inspect components and structures without causing damage or deformation. These techniques are applied to evaluate materials at a lower cost, with high throughput, and in a short amount of time. Unlike non-destructive testing, destructive testing (DT) involves testing a limited number of samples and typically results in damage or destruction of the tested items.
Various materials or components may exhibit different types of discontinuities and metallurgical defects, such as cracks, internal voids, cold welds, etc., which can vary in size and impact the future performance of the component.
The presence of any defect in components or structures can lead to serious and irreparable safety and financial consequences. Therefore, the use of non-destructive testing equipment is crucial for detecting, identifying, and isolating these defects.
